Buying from abroad: virtual walkthroughs and power of attorney
Many of our buyers live in the Gulf, the UK, the US or Singapore and cannot take a week off to tour projects. A good process can do most of the work remotely.
A sensible remote process
- Shortlist two or three projects by location, budget and completion date.
- Verify each RERA registration online.
- Join a private video walkthrough to see the plans, the price sheet and the current availability.
- Ask for the draft agreement for sale and have an advocate review it.
- Pay through your own bank account and keep the records.
Power of attorney
If you cannot attend the registration, a power of attorney can allow a trusted person to sign on your behalf. It needs to be drafted correctly, and often notarised and apostilled or attested at the Indian mission in the country where you live. The requirements vary by state, so ask your advocate before you sign. Choose the attorney with great care and limit the powers to what is needed.
